What is thermal imaging
Thermal imaging is a none-invasive diagnostic technique that allows us to visualize and quantify changes in the surface temperature of electrical equipment .An infrared camera converts infrared radiation (heat ) emitted from the surface of electrical equipment and materials by the use of camera technology you can work out temperature differences in the area of looking at and find high resistant areas as well as other issues.
Advantages
More run time on your gear
Less down time
Less profit lost
Safety improved
Better maintenance planning and cost-effective maintenance
Testing when equipment still online
Disadvantages
Small amount of cost
Thermal imaging testing will be up to standards of ASNT-TC-1A AND ISO18436-7.
Thermal imaging can be used to find potential electrical issues that you cannot always see or smell. It can be made visual if you have correct test gear and knowledge to understand what you’re looking at. You can save money and stress and reduce risk to your production, staff and buildings.
It works with a non-invasive, none contact procedure so very safe to do. By monitoring your equipment on a regular time frame you can trend the data and work out when maintenance is required and reduce the risk of faults happening. Doing this testing gives you more control of your company safety, production and down time for a little bit of cost.
If your company is running ISO 55000- Asset Management Standards, then this system will help you achieve your goals.
Things we can test for you:
Switch boards
Metre box and equipment
Switch Yards
Overhead power lines and equipment
Transformers
Control boxes
Faults that can be found are:
Hot spots
Potential and actual electrical overloads
Failing components on machinery
Electrical and heating losses
Loose or corroded connections not just on cable connections, but also on any crimp connections
Overloads
Faulty fuses
Damaged switches
Faulty equipment
Damaged cables
Damaged terminations
Imbalanced circuits
Fire risks
After the completion of our inspection, our Coombs Electrical thermographer will supply a detailed report of all the equipment. It will contain details including the location of any issues.
From there you can take remedial action to develop a regular maintenance program and complete any repairs to improve safety, reduce risks, and reduce your business’ machinery, plant or electrical costs.
